The weekend before last was "Crop Weekend" over at
Skrapnchat. Being a GDT, one of my duties was to come up with two challenges based on the theme "Back to". My first challenge was "Back On" - the LO had to include a picture where the subject had their back to the camera. I chose this pic of my DD and LDN (which I think is priceless!). I did some colour focus editing in Picasa and am very happy with the results!
My next challenge was "Back to the Kitchen". Nothing says fall like comfort food - in my house anyway! I just LOVE crumble - and it's never just apples. I always include other seasonal fruit - cranberries, peaches, strawberries - whatever is available at the grocer or in the field. Mmmmmmmmm, crumble!
Of course, there were lots of great challenges posted by the other DT and GDT, so I just had to play along! As soon as I saw Tanner mucking in the puddles in his rubber boots and shorts, Christoper Robin popped into my head. Classic Pooh Bear and his friends are one of my favourite characters of all time. I used sepia toned pictures to capture the "classic" feel (plus, Tanner's clothes completely clashed. Seriously, what's a girl to do?) The tree was inspired by a LO in the October edition of Scrapbooks Etc. (my fave scrapbooking mag!) - I just punched several pieces of pp and adhered them to a hand-cut chipboard tree and Voila! a whimsical embelly was born!
Ah, my pretty little Adrianna! I was so happy with all the pics from our photo shoot with my LDN that I have used the pics on several LO's already! This picture just said so much to me and the journaling reads "no matter what live hands you, I hope you always remember to look up". I know what this means to me, but I will leave the interpretation open to the viewer.
Next to Pooh, my favourite story is Alice in Wonderland. When I noticed the hole in this hedge, I could almost hear the White Rabbit saying "I'm late, so late, so very very late!" Again I went with sepia to capture that classical, whimsical feeling. And the bunny - seriously, how cute is he? If you look closely, you will see the flower "center" is an acrylic clock face. Why? Well, have you ever seen a White Rabbit without his pocket watch? I thought not.
My final challenge was a "Back to Black" challenge. The challenge was to use either a black background OR a black and white picture. When I was playing around with the picture, the simplicity and sheer emotion it brought out in me demanded nothing more than a simple black background and minimal embellishment. The picture was actually taken at the wading pool this summer and it was done as a joke - I had no idea at the time what it would draw out of me after photo-editing it. This picture might become a framed print to hang on my wall.
It was a fun weekend, a great way to get some LO's done and to "chat" with fellow scrapbookers. I do love scrapbooking - the creative and emotional outlet it provides for me. I find as I get older - and as my kids get older - there is much more meaning to my pictures and what is "behind" the LO. Maybe it's because I am starting to realize just how quickly time passes by and I truly want to capture small moments that I can hold on to forever.
